The Japanese National Police Agency has identified the theft of 4,502.9 BTC from DMM Bitcoin as the work of the Lazarus Group
On December 24th, in response to the theft of 48.20 billion yen worth of bitcoin from the crypto asset exchange DMM Bitcoin, the Japanese National Police Agency reported on December 24th that the incident was carried out by the North Korean-based cyber attack group Trader Traitor. South Korea announced that the facts of the crime have been determined. Through a joint investigation with the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the US Department of Defense Cyber Crime Center (DC3), the agency identified the originator of the 4,502.9 BTC theft that took place in May 2024. Trader Traitor is believed to be affiliated with the North Korean hacking group Lazarus Group, and the attack was carried out in multiple stages.
The agency said it will continue to work with the FBI, other U.S. government entities and international partners to investigate the illegal activities of North Korean hackers, including incidents of cybercrime and cryptoasset theft.
