Kraken Lianchuang Sues Apartment Co-op: Refused to Buy a House Due to Cryptocurrency Background

On February 6, Jesse Powell, co-founder of cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, filed a lawsuit in San Francisco Superior Court accusing the co-op's board of directors at the 2500 Steiner Street apartment building of discriminating against his purchase of a home. The indictment alleges that Powell was denied because of his association with the cryptocurrency industry, his experience with an FBI search of his home in early 2023, and his support for conservative causes. Powell said the board of directors of the apartment building, which currently lists a 325-square-meter property for nearly $10 million, rejected his application without giving a clear reason.
