On March 2, according to reports citing people familiar with the matter, several executives of Japan's SoftBank Group told a number of banking institutions last week that the company's CEO Masayoshi Son plans to borrow $16 billion to invest in artificial intelligence. This development follows a large loan of $18.50 billion, marking the company's aggressive progress in the field of AI. In the future, SoftBank may borrow $8 billion in early 2026. According to previously learned information, SoftBank plans to invest $40 billion in the "Stargate" infrastructure project and OpenAI announced by US President Trump, and has started negotiations around financing up to $18.50 billion. In January, Reuters reported that SoftBank is in talks to invest up to $25 billion in OpenAI, which develops the large model ChatGPT.
