Trump to announce TSMC's $100 billion chip plant investment plan

TSMC (TSM. N) plans to invest $100 billion to build a chip manufacturing plant in the United States over the next four years, according to a plan expected to be announced late Monday local time by U.S. President Donald Trump, according to the Wall Street Journal. The investment will be used to build a cutting-edge chip manufacturing facility. The expansion plan will advance a long-sought U.S. goal of reviving the U.S. semiconductor industry, people familiar with the matter said. TSMC took root in Arizona in 2020 when it said it would spend $12 billion to build a chip factory there. Since then, the company's ambitions for the base have expanded rapidly, building two more plants at the same location for a total investment of $65 billion. The company's first plant began mass production late last year.
