The Republican-controlled House of Representatives voted Tuesday to block Congress from quickly challenging President Trump's tariffs that have shaken financial marekts. Tuesday's vote effectively scuttled an effort by Rep. Suzan DelBene, D-Wash., to challenge Trump's tariffs on Canada and Mexico. The provision was crammed into a procedural vote on the GOP's six-month temporary appropriations bill. DelBene had sought to force a vote under the National Emergencies Act, which gives the president special powers in emergencies and which Trump invoked in his tariff action. The law also allows the House to force a vote within 15 days to revoke the president's emergency powers. The Senate must also pass a resolution to take effect. But Tuesday's vote tweaks the way the House calculates the number of calendar days remaining in 2025, effectively blocking such a vote this year.
