Hacking group "Dark Storm" claims responsibility for DDoS attack on X platform
The Russian-backed hacking group Dark Storm has claimed responsibility for a massive cyber attack on the X platform. At the peak of the attack, Downdetector recorded nearly 40,000 users losing access to the platform, but X owner Musk said user functionality was quickly restored.
Cyber security group SpyoSecure said in a March 10 post that the hacking group Dark Storm admitted to launching a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack through a message posted by its leader via Telegram. The Telegram channel was subsequently removed for violating the platform's terms of service. Ed Krassenstein, co-founder of the NFT Market NFTz.me, said he contacted Dark Storm leaders, who described the attack as a "demonstration of strength" and not politically motivated.
